The headline read: "Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden goes out a winner in Gator Bowl..."
The come-from-behind win was impressive, as the Seminoles defeated West Virginia in the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day.
But also impressive are 389 wins in Coach Bobby Bowden’s career as a Head Coach, the second most wins in major college football history.
Also impressive: 33 straight winning seasons.
And many more college football statistics in his career are also noteworthy.
But something else is even more impressive -- and that is his character, his integrity, and the life of faith he has led in making a difference in the lives of his family and in the lives of the young men in his football program over all of these years.
That truly makes a person a winner.
As a spiritual mentor to his son, he has passed down a model example of soul winning and mentoring.
Coach Bowden deserves enormous respect for his accomplishments in college football.
He deserves even more respect for modeling the Christian life and for winning others to Christ.
As he said on Friday of football, “You can’t take it with you. There are things in life more important.”
The Bible says, in Proverbs 11:30, “He that winneth souls is wise.”
Winning a soul to Jesus is the most impressive win of all.
