A Ministry of Christian Journalism
The Christian View was founded by Karen Brewer as a ministry of sharing the Gospel through journalism.
The mission of The Christian View magazine and The Christian View online is to be a lighthouse for Christ -- as a witnessing tool, seeking to shine the light of Christ through positive, inspiring stories.
The Christian View reaches thousands of readers through the print magazine and thousands more via the internet, as readers from every state in the United States and from 144 other countries around the world visit this website. (For details, see Reaching the World for Christ.)
The Christian View magazine is printed by Hiott Printing Company.
The Publisher/Editor has a background in journalism, having served as a newspaper Editor for five years, before creating The Christian View, and having been presented awards in news reporting and in feature writing from the South Carolina Press Association. In addition to editorial duties, in photographing events and in writing several hundred stories each year, she reported on many beats, such as government (including attending and reporting on County Council meetings and other governmental committee meetings and interviewing political candidates for local, statewide, and national office), education (including attending and reporting on the county's School Board meetings and events at the area's 24 schools), veterans (including attending and reporting on events of the local American Legion Posts), crime, news from law enforcement, events and news from charitable organizations, breaking news, feature stories, and more. She also worked as a stringer for the Associated Press for election coverage.
Throughout her entire journalism career, she has been committed to being thorough and detailed, always writing truthfully and quoting precisely, as a responsible, trusted journalist and also as a person of integrity. She has maintained that same integrity with each and every issue of The Christian View as well as with The Christian View online.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Clemson University, majoring in English (American and British literature) and minoring in Journalism, while also studying courses in world history, U.S. government, constitutional law, philosophy, astronomy, calculus, and three foreign languages.
She earned her Master of Arts degree from Clemson University, majoring in English, with the Master's oral exam covering 150 works in British and American literature and poetry, and the thesis consisting of writing a full-length film script.
For three years while an undergraduate student at Clemson, she worked for the university's Departments of News Services and University Relations, with duties including writing press releases for the university sent to the media, writing for the university's alumni magazine, Clemson World, and writing a television commercial for the university which aired on the local NBC affiliate, WYFF.
She also wrote for her college newspaper, The Tiger, after serving as a staff writer of her high school newspaper for four years.
While in college, she and fellow journalism students created a publication to help publicize a shelter/home for abused and neglected children in the Clemson area, and she and fellow journalism students wrote stories about the university for a special section in a local newspaper, The Clemson Messenger.
As a newspaper Editor, she was influenced by the witness and Christian faith of Tommy Bowden, and dedicated her writing to Christ. After the newspaper was sold by the owner and the General Manager passed away, she left the newspaper and created The Christian View magazine to focus on writing and publishing Christian stories. (Her former co-workers shortly thereafter left the same newspaper to create their own publication.)
She has also been published in other publications as a guest writer, including several issues of Sandlapper: The Magazine of South Carolina, when she was asked to write historical articles.
In 2006, she was asked by the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and then elected by Convention messengers, to serve in 2007 with six pastors on the seven-member Resolutions Committee for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
In The Christian View, she strives to offer stories that are centered on Christ and living the Christian life. Her writing is focused on interviewing people from various backgrounds who show how their faith in Christ has changed their lives. The mission of The Christian View is to use writing as a witnessing tool -- to uplift others and most importantly to uplift the name of Jesus.
"Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake." Psalm 115:1
